Why is my Google ad not showing

Most of the time, the ad is running; it just is not showing to you. Other times it is under review, disapproved, out of budget or bidding too low. Before searching for your own ad on Google, use the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool inside Google Ads.

First: do not search for your own ad

Searching for your ad repeatedly without clicking makes Google stop showing it to you, because it assumes you are not interested. The impressions also count and skew your metrics. Use Tools → Ad Preview and Diagnosis in Google Ads: it shows whether your ad would appear for a search, in a given city, without affecting anything.

The 10 most common reasons

  1. Under review: new or edited ads go through review, which usually takes up to one business day.
  2. Disapproved: it broke a policy (health, finance, trademarks, misleading content). The reason shows in the status column.
  3. Budget exhausted: the daily budget ran out early. It shows as "Limited by budget".
  4. Low bid: other businesses pay more and your ad loses the auction.
  5. Low quality: an ad that is not relevant to the keyword, or a poor landing page, lowers your ad rank.
  6. Low search volume keyword: it shows as "Low search volume" and stays inactive.
  7. Targeting: you are outside the location, schedule or language set for the campaign.
  8. A negative keyword is blocking it: a negative stops exactly the search you are testing.
  9. Payment issue: a declined card or unpaid invoice pauses the account.
  10. Suspended account: due to a serious policy violation or pending advertiser verification.

Disapproved ad: what to do

  • Read the disapproval reason in the "Status" column and click through to the policy.
  • Fix the ad or the landing page (many disapprovals are due to a broken, slow or misleading page).
  • If you think the disapproval was a mistake, use the option to appeal the decision.
  • In regulated industries such as health, some terms are simply not allowed. See Google Ads for clinics and for lawyers.

Quick checklist

  • Are the campaign, ad group and ad all enabled?
  • Ad status: eligible, under review or disapproved?
  • Is the campaign "Limited by budget"?
  • Are your city and the current time within the targeting?
  • Is billing up to date?

If nothing shows even then, an account review will sort it out. EixoAds does that review; see the plans.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for an ad to be approved?

Usually up to one business day. Some ads in regulated industries can take longer.

My ad shows to others but not to me. Is that normal?

Yes. If you search many times without clicking, Google stops showing the ad to you. Use the Ad Preview and Diagnosis tool.

Can I appeal a disapproval?

Yes. In the ad status column there is an option to appeal the decision after you fix the issue, or if you think it was a mistake.
